Get busy shopping for all of your Halloween decorations.

I&8217;m not talking about paper skeletons and scarecrows to hang on your door. I mean the decorations that you can find at your local farmers markets, Co-op stores or retail garden shops.

Sugar cane, corn stalks, ornamental gourds, squashes, Indian corn and of course; pumpkins make excellent adornments for any yard or porch.

Get some bales of hay to stack in different heights to display some of your decorations on. You can also use some of the hay to stuff pants and an old shirt to make a scarecrow.

Some farmers markets have un-baled wheat straw that you can use to stuff the arms of your scarecrow. These are not just decorations for Halloween, but are useable for Thanksgiving too; less the jack-o-lantern of course.

Another seasonal holiday that is growing in popularity is Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. It is a three day celebration from October 31st through November 2nd honoring lost loved ones.

This holiday has been celebrated for over 3,000 years.

Changing gears…I just stepped outside and noticed that about twenty of the Meyer lemons on my tree are turning yellow.

They will be ripe before Thanksgiving!

Also, I still have Tradescantia (Virginia spiderwort) blooming along with Calibrachoa, geraniums and petunias! Wow, what a season it has been!
