The Vincent Yellow Jackets are 2A Region 5 champions.

The Jackets 6-3, 6-1) defeated Victory Christian on the road last Friday night 28-6.

Vincent head football coach Dwight Spradley said his team lost a lot of players from his 6-1 region squad of last season.

He said he just wanted to be able to compete.

But he said his current group played hard, worked and did what he asked them to do. &8220;I&8217;m extremely proud,&8221; he said.

Against Victory Christian, quarterback Corey DeLoach completed four of 10 passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns. He was intercepted twice.

Running back Orlando Pelmer rushed 32 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

And sharing in the scoring were Justin Peterson, who caught two passes for 56 yards and one touchdown, and Octavius Looney, who caught one pass for 19 yards and a touchdown.

The Jacket defense was led by Josh Wallace with 10 tackles, Terrence Carter with nine tackles and Jacob King with seven tackles.

Before getting into playoff action, the Jackets will travel to play cross county rival, 3A Montevallo.

Defeating a team out of Vincent&8217;s own class had been a hard task for the Jackets. Spradley said his team is 0-11 in that category with this Friday marking the 12th out of class contest.

He called Montevallo a talented team and said beating them will be a tall order.
