Minor dashes Spain Park playoff hopes

The Spain Park Jaguars found themselves on the losing side of a catfight against the Minor Tigers last Friday night.

The Tigers dumped the Jags 33-14 in their own backyard and put the home team&8217;s playoff hopes in jeopardy.

The Region 6 loss also dropped the 6A Jags to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in region play.

While this contest was close statistically, it was a different story on the scoreboard.

Spain Park rushed for 186 yards to 209 yards for Minor. The Jags passed for 126 yards to 153 yards for the Tigers.

The Tigers led 13-0 at the half and exploded for 20 more points to lead 33-7 through the third quarter.

Spain Park got one fourth quarter score to make a 33-14 ballgame.

Spain Park got on the scoreboard in the third quarter on a James Willis 5 yard run and Ben Meadows kick.

The Jags got get their second score late on a 3-yard pass from quarterback Cody Wells to Drew Watson.

The leading rusher for Spain Park was Eli Smith who had 115 yards on 19 carries. He was followed by James Willis with 68 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries.

Leading receivers were Cody Jackson with 48 yards on five catches and Justin Diliberto with 37 yards and three catches.

Spain Park will close out the season against non-region 6A Hillcrest
