The town of Vincent has voted to allow the Shelby County Department of Development Services to help the town outline its comprehensive plan.

The move was made earlier this month after the Regional Planning Commission of Birmingham never contacted the town council about starting a plan.

The comprehensive plan is the second service Vincent has chosen to let Shelby County handle in the last two months. In August, the council and Mayor Terry Allen voted at a special session meeting to contract with the county for building inspections as well as permits for new homes, home additions, subdivisions and any new commercial buildings.

Vincent had first tried in July to use an in-house inspector, saying that using a town staff member will make inspections more convenient and affordable to citizens, as well as cheaper than a county contract. Besides an in-house or county inspector, the council had also explored the option of hiring someone that wasn&8217;t on the town&8217;s payroll.
