Jags close season with Hillcrest win

The 6A Spain Park Jaguars improved their record to overall record to 6-4 with a convincing 35-0 win over visiting 6A Hillcrest of Tuscaloosa last Friday night.

The man of the hour proved to be senior receiver Justin Diliberto, who completed a 10-yard pass for a touchdown and who caught 12 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Jaguars&8217; quarterback Cody Wells completed 20 of 32 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns, as well.

Eli Smith led Spain Park rushers with 178 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.

Leading the Spain Park defense was Sean Thompson with seven tackles and a sack. He was followed by Victor Williams with six tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery, and Drew Scott with six tackles.

In blanking Hillcrest, Spain Park rushed for 187 yards and passed for 257 yards for 444 yards total offense.

The Jaguars held their visitors to 85 yards rushing and 108 yards passing.

Diliberto put the Jaguars on the scoreboard first with a 5-yard pass reception from Wells. He followed that with a second, first quarter touchdown reception of 32 yards from Wells.

Diliberto returned the favor in the second quarter by toss a 10-yard strike to Wells.

Smith closed out the scoring with two 10-yard touchdown runs.

The Jaguars ended the season with Wells passing for more than 2,000 yards, Smith rushing for more than 1,000 yards and Diliberto receiving for more than 1,000 yards.

As it looks now, the Jaguars will return 18 starters next season.
