Outside the Lines: Raiders will roll in second round game

The regular football season is over for many teams, and its already time for playoffs.

Alabama Independent School Association schools began playoff action last Friday and Shelby County is down to one school standing in that arena, the 1A Shelby Academy Raiders.

Alabama High School Athletic Association schools will begin their playoffs this Friday.

In the AHSAA playoffs, Shelby County boats 6A Pelham and Thompson, 5A Briarwood, Chelsea and Shelby County, 3A Calera and Montevallo and 2A Vincent.

I went 8-3 in my predictions last week for a record of 95-33 overall. That was good for 74 percent accuracy.

-2A Vincent (6-4, 6-1) lost to 3A Montevallo 40-25 on the road and will next host West Morgan, which lost to East Limestone 48-28, in North sub-state action.

Prediction: Vincent 28, West Morgan 7.

-3A Calera (9-1, 5-1) beat non-region 3A Weaver at home 40-23 and will next host Abbeville, which beat Wicksburg 22-10, in 3A South sub-state action.

Prediction: Calera 35, Abbeville 14.

-3A Montevallo (7-3, 4-3) defeated Vincent at home and will travel to Pike County, which beat Booker T. Washington 47-21, in 3A South sub-state action.

Prediction: Pike County 42, Montevallo 21.

-5A Briarwood (8-2, 6-1) beat 6A Jackson Olin 21-0 on the road and will host Athens, which lost to Sparkman 31-14, in the North 5A sub-state action.

Prediction: Briarwood 38, Athens 14.

u 5A Chelsea (8-2, 7-0) lost to 5A non-region Shelby County on the road 21-17 and will next host J.O. Johnson, which Beat Butler 34-6, in 5A North sub-state action.

Prediction: J.O. Johnson 28, Chelsea 10.

-5A Shelby County (7-3, 5-2) beat non-region Chelsea at home and will next host Valley, which defeated LaFayette 32-14, in 5A South sub-state action.

Prediction: Shelby County 28, Valley 21.

-6A Pelham (8-2, 7-0) fell to non-region 6A Vestavia Hills on the road 27-0, but will host Bob Jones, which beat Madison Academy 24-0, in 6A North sub-state action.

Prediction: Pelham 21, Bob Jones 14.

-6A Thompson (7-3,5-2) just fell to 6A non-region Homewood 17-10 on the road and will travel to Florence, which beat Russellville 14-13, in 6A North sub-state action.

Prediction Thompson 14, Florence 12.

-1A, AISA Shelby Academy (9-2, 7-1) beat East Memorial Academy 38-14 at home in the first round of AISA state playoff action and will travel to play Autauga Academy (10-1) in semifinal 2A action. Autauga Academy eliminated Cornerstone 36-14.

Prediction: Shelby Academy 35, Autauga Academy 21
