As one of the top two eight-man teams in the Tennessee Valley Conference, Evangel Christian advanced to the National Playoffs in Dayton, Tenn. only to be eliminated in two back-to-back games.
However, Kevin Marlowe and Isaac Snuggs were named to the NACA 2006 All Tournament team.
The national tournament was held Nov. 7-10.
The Lightning fell to Rocket City 32-24 in Nov. 8 action.
And on Nov. 10, Evangel went down to Restoration Academy 30-24.
Both tough losses came down to the final minutes before the result was clear.
In the Rocket City game, Evangel came back from 20 down only to fall short.
In the Restoration Academy game, Evangel fell back 22-0 before surging to take a 24-22 lead at the half. But a desperation pass by Restoration on a fourth and goal play from the 11-yard line as time was running out drew a late pass interference call on the Evangel Lightning.
A quarterback sneak on the next play ended Evangel&8217;s hopes.
Evangel entered the national tournament with a record of 5-4
