The Thompson Lady Warriors fell to Grissom 53-43 to take second place in the Thompson High School Lady Warriors tip-off tournament held this past Friday and Saturday at Thompson High School.

In the championship game, the Lady Warriors were led by Rhonda Watts with 20 points, eight rebounds, three steals and one assist.

She was followed by Zoriah Williams, who had seven points, 10 rebounds, four steals and one assist.

Named to the all tournament team from Thompson were Watts and Williams.

Named to the all tournament team for Grissom were Anna Lane, Allison Cousins and Tournament Most Valuable Player was Patsy Moore.

Others named to the all tournament team included Sydnee King of Hueytown, Courtney Oliver of Jemison, Diamond Lee of Ramsey, Jennifer Taylor of LAMP, and Sha Bowe of Wetumpka.

Thompson defeated Briarwood 69-41, Wetumpka defeated Jemison 57-37, Lamp defeated Hueytown 45-41 and Grissom defeated Sidney Lanier 55-43.

Thompson defeated Wetumpka 75-35 and Grissom took out LAMP 53-19. That set up the Thompson/Grissom championship match.

Going down the loser&8217;s bracket, Briarwood defeated Jemison 68-29 and Sydney Lanier defeated Hueytown 55-37. Sidney Lanier defeated Briarwood in the consolation game 50-36.

Closing out the competition, Hueytown downed Jemison 52-40 and Wetumpka took down LAMP 66-37.

Thompson head basketball coach Cara Crosslin said this was the ninth year of the tournament. &8220;It&8217;s a good way to star the season off to get exposure and see different teams than what you normally do during your regular season,&8221; she said.

Against Briarwood and Wetumpka, she said her team came out on fire, but she said they came out flat against Grissom. Still, she said, &8220;It was a great experience for us to see a team out of region.&8221;

Crosslin recognized the play of Lady Warriors including

Watts, Williams, Christina Shelton and Renita Lewis.

Also seeing action recently were the ladies of Coosa Valley Academy, who defeated Central Christian 51-30.

For the Rebels, Kimberli Rutledge had 27 points, Tycer Paris 11 points and Emma Bliss had 10 pints.

Mandy Bliss had 15 rebounds.
