High School hoops tip off

Basketball season is underway and the following seasonal tournaments are scheduled:

Spain Park Tournament for freshmen boys, Nov. 24-25; Nov. 22-25, Thompson Holiday Classic for boys; Nov. 20-22, Pelham Thanksgiving Tournament for girls; Nov. 22-25, Vincent High School Tournament for boys; and Nov. 22, 24 and 25, Thompson Tournament for boys.

In recent basketball action:

On Friday Nov. 17, the (2-2) Spain Park girls defeated Shades Valley at home 46-37.

Stefie Dominguez had 18 points, Laura Kneiss scored 12 points and Meghan Dunn chipped in 10 points with nine rebounds, six steals and six assists.

The Thompson Lady Warriors (3-2) fell to Hillcrest on the road 81-58. Chasity Herron led the Warriors with 23 points and Renita Lewis had 14 points.

The (1-0) Spain Park boys defeated Shades Valley at home 75-58. Cameron Terry led the Jaguars with 15 points, followed by Wheeler Flemming with 14 points and six rebounds.

On Thursday, Nov. 16, the Chelsea Varsity Boys (2-1) defeated Fayetteville 65-51 on the road. Leading the Hornets in scoring were Rod Macon with 30 points, eight rebounds and seven steals followed by Thomas Longshore with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Hornets of Chelsea defeated Fayetteville 62-24 to go 1-1. Morgan Arnold led the Hornets with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Arnold added 13 points.

The Coosa Valley Academy Lady Rebels defeated Sumter Academy at home 55-39 to go 3-0.

Leading the Lady Rebels was Kimberli Rutledge with 26 points, two assists, 10 steals and 12 rebounds. She was followed by Tyger Paris with 11 points, one assist, three steals and eight rebounds. Mandy Bliss added seven points and had four steals and 11 rebounds.

The Oak Mountain girls fell to Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 74-49.

The Lady Eagles (1-1) were led by Lauren Miller with 15 points, two assists, two steals and three rebounds and by Tiffaney McKinney with 12 points, two assists, one steal and four rebounds.

On Tuesday, Nov. 14, the Lady Eagles defeated Chelsea 51-22. Miller and McKinney each scored 11 points. Miller had two assists and five steals and McKinney had two blocks, one steal and six rebounds.

Also on Nov. 14, the Coosa Valley Lady Rebels defeated West Alabama Prep 61-21 on the road. Rutledge had 30 points, three assists, eight steals and 12 rebounds; Paris had nine points, one assist and eight steals; and Bliss had eight points, five steals and 11 rebounds.

On Nov. 14 the Pelham Varsity boys (0-1) fell to Parkway Christian 74-70. The Panthers were led by Steven Clark with 41 points, three assists, four steals and four rebounds and Trey James with 11 points, two assists, one steal and two rebounds. Rodney Billings added seven points, had two assists, three steals and eight rebounds.

The Oak Mountain boys are 1-1 on the season following a win over Chelsea 67-37 on Nov. 14 and a loss to Hillcrest of Tuscaloosa 65-41 on Nov. 15
