SPECIAL TO THE REPORTER

South City Theatre in Alabaster will open &8220;Miracle on 34th Street&8221; on Friday, Dec. 1.

The classic American tale will run Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. until Dec. 17.

On Friday evening, Dec. 1, there will be an opening night wine and cheese reception following the show.

The beautiful American Christmas story is rarely produced on stage, and South City Theatre has given the classic new life by updating it and placing it in current day New York City.

Francie Gardner of SCT wrote that, &8220;The themes of the show are still really meaningful today … A single mother who doesn&8217;t want her child to believe in fairy tales and a department store Santa who brings hope to a shallow materialistic world.&8221;

The show, directed by Valerie Lemmons, centers around main characters Kris Kringle, played by Ron Dauphinee; Doris Walker, played by Carla Dumontie; and Fred Gailey, played by Greg Scott.

Tickets are discounted $15 and $12 for students and seniors, and reservations are recommended.

SCT is located just off U.S. Hwy. 31 South (in Alabaster) within Cloverdale Commercial Park. Call 621-2128 or visit www.southcitytheatre.com
