County receives FEMA storm shelter aid

Shelby County Emergency Management Agency has received limited FEMA Grant Funds for Individual Storm Shelters.

The grant funds will be 75 percent of the eligible cost (not to exceed $2,000.00) for constructing or installing a storm shelter.

Applications will be prioritized using the following categories:

-Individuals living in mobile homes

-Prior disaster victim

-Others

Other requirements to receive grant funds:

-Applicants must own property on which storm shelter will be constructed/installed and be located in Shelby County.

-Construction/Installation of storm shelter must meet FEMA standards.

-Construction/Installation must be performed by an Alabama Licensed Contractor.

-All costs will be paid up front by applicant with 75% of eligible cost being reimbursed upon completion of project.

To apply for a storm shelter, contact the Shelby County Emergency Management Agency office at 669-3999 between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The deadline for applications is December 29
