This year in Shelby County, bells are hardly ringing…especially the Salvation Army kind. That&8217;s right. There is a shortage of Salvation Army bell ringers in Shelby County, collecting money for those in need at Christmas .

The Salvation Army has only been able to post two or three people a day with kettles and bells this season, when there is a need for up to 25 bell ringers a day.

While there are only three days left for the Salvation Army to collect money for those in need, every second counts.

There are about 22 separate programs that operate in Shelby County through the Salvation Army.

Proceeds collected in Shelby County remain in Shelby County and go to help people with housing, utility bills, youth programs and the needy.

Bell ringers work in four-hour shifts from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. And there are locations to be served in Shelby County in Alabaster, Pelham and along U.S. 280.

Some positions are paid. But the joy of Christmas comes from giving.
