County wrestlers enter sectionals

Five Shelby County wrestling teams are preparing this week for their respective Alabama High School Athletic Association sectional tournaments on Saturday.
Spain Park, Oak Mountain and Pelham enter the sectionals after closing the regular season at Saturday&8217;s Mountain Brook Invitational.
The Eagles placed fourth with 191 points and help from two individual champions. Jared Woodall&8217;s claim of the 112-pound championship with the help of a forfeit in the title match, while defending 6A state champion Steven West pined Hewitt-Trussville&8217;s Corey Shoop for the 119-pound division.
Oak Mountain came close to capturing two more individual titles in the 125-pound and 152-pound divisions, however Davis Bagwell and John Blakely respectively came up short.
Spain Park claimed sixth place overall, despite Eric Jones, weighing in at 285 pounds, winning a hotly contested heavyweight match 4-2 with an overtime takedown of Hewitt&8217;s Justin Reynolds.
Pelham was led by Jeff Malone, who finished runner-up to Hewitt&8217;s Jake Elkins in the 189-pound division. The Panthers finished seventh out of eight teams.
Hewitt-Trussville took first with 317 team points and three individual champions, and will host Spain Park and Oak Mountain at the Class 6A, Section 3 tournament Saturday.
Pelham will travel to Hoover High School to compete in the Section 2 tournament.
Two other county teams, Chelsea and Shelby County, will also see sectional action this Saturday at the Class 5A, Section 1 tournament hosted by Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City
