Hannah Phillips collected 24 points to lead eighth-ranked Kingwood Christian (14-3)

to a 57-14 victory over Cornerstone Christian Monday night.

The Lady Lions jumped out to a 31-0 lead through the first 13 and a half minutes of play, before Finley Ransom ended the Chargers&8217; drought with a pair of buckets.

Rebecca Simpson was 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the second quarter and followed Phillips with nine points.

Phillips added 24 and 22 points respectively in wins over Evangel Montgomery, 49-28, and Taylor Road, 65-21.

They will look to clinch their sixth-consecutive area championship this week, hosting Chambers Academy last night and traveling to Springwood on Friday.

Montevallo continues to roll: Montevallo improved to 13-1 with Monday&8217;s 57-17 victory over Billingsley. Desiree Jones paced the Bulldogs with nine points in a 61-27 win over Vincent Friday. Candice Fields posted the best performance of the week for the team with 29 points in Thursday&8217;s 60-34 victory at Shelby County. Alisha Gentry added 12 points in the game.

Shelby County close to area title: Shelby County prepares for a run for the area title against Chilton County on Friday. Leah Bland led the Wildcats with 11 points in Thursday&8217;s 60-34 loss to Montevallo.

Coosa Valley performs like No. 10: Kimberli Rutledge helped Coosa Valley shut down Open Door 61-25 Friday with a triple-double with 23 points, 12 boards and 10 assists. Mandy Bliss also contributed 12 points and 13 boards to help the 10th ranked Rebels.

Hope Christian wins two more: Devin Douglas led Hope Christian (19-1) with 17 points and 20 points respectively in wins over Eastwood, 36-21, and Tabernacle Christian, 51-27. She also had 11 steals and five assists against Eastwood and eight rebounds against Tabernacle.

Spain Park 1-3 on the week: After defeating Vestavia Hills, 53-48, last Tuesday to improve to 2-1 in Class 6A, Area , the Jaguars dropped a pair of games over the weekend. Friday, Meghan Dunn lead the way with 13 points, but the Jags fell to 2-2 in the area with a 56-32 loss at Hoover. Saturday, Stefie Dominguez led Spain Park with eight points as the Jaguars fell to Hewitt Trussville, 62-48, dropping them to 12-11 on the season. Dunn and Dominguez had 17 and 15 respectively against Vestavia. The Jags traveled to Oak Mountain last night and will close their area schedule Friday at Vestavia Hills.

Oak Mountain winless in area: Despite 29 points on the week by Lauren Miller, the Eagles continued to struggle to pick up their first win of area play, falling to Hoover, 60-29, last Tuesday and Vestavia Hills, 45-34 on Friday. Catherine Wise added 11 points against Vestavia. OMHS entered last night&8217;s are game at Spain Park 0-4 in area play and host Hoover Friday to close out the area schedule.

Briarwood splits week, gains key area win: Ruth Ketcham led the Lady Lions (4-13) with 26 points and 15 boards, while Lauren Parks chipped in with 22 in a 74-59 victory at Parker Friday. Ketcham added just eight in Tuesday&8217;s 60-37 loss at Pelham.

Whitney Dailey added nine points.

Indian Springs falls to Altamont: Terra Stanley paced Indian Springs (1-13) with nine points, but it was not enough, as her team fell 64-21 to Altamont on Friday.

Vincent splits the week: After collecting a 40-30 victory over Thorsby earlier in the week, the Yellow Jackets fell to 4-11 with a 61-27 loss to Montevallo on Friday. Niesha Dates led Vincent with 14 points against Thorsby, while Andreaine Datcher had 11 against Montevallo.

Calera picks up area victory: The Eagles improved to 8-11 overall and 4-6 in area play behind a 22-point performance by Jalisa Thomas who also added seven steals in Friday&8217;s 59-43 win over Leeds.

Shelby Academy defeats Sumter: Kimbrell Lee and Sarah Glass each scored 11 to lead the Raiders to a 41-33 victory over Sumter Academy Friday.

Evangel drops weekend contest: Hannah Letson led Evangel (8-5) with 17 points, as they fell to Harvester Christian 59-37 on Friday.

Chelsea falls to Shades Mountain: Despite 15 points from Leah Rogers, the Chelsea Hornets (6-9) fell to Shades Mountain 48-39
