Briarwood Christian Academy&8217;s 43-40 deficit in the final seconds of the third period looked to be the break the Lions were waiting for but never received, as they fell 62-49 to Parker.

&8220;We knew it was going to be tough,&8221; said Lions head coach Chris Laatsch. &8220;We had chances to tie it, but couldn&8217;t really get there.&8221;

The loss drops the Lions to 1-3 in the area, as they travel to Ramsey on Friday. They met John Carroll last night, but results were not available.

Carter Tanner led the Lions with six 3-point baskets and 18 points against Parker, while Austin Thames and Wesley Lynch followed with 14 and 10 points respectively.

Lynch added 18 in last Tuesday&8217;s 58-41 win over Pelham.

Spain Park wins three more: Seventh-ranked Spain Park capped a three-win week with a 49-38 victory over No. 8 Hewitt-Trussville Saturday. Jake Drum led the Jaguars (20-5) with 15 points, while Jay Prater helped lock down the victory with 14 points. Prater led his team to victory the night before, 65-52 over Hoover, with 14 points. Drum and William Green each had 13. Drum started the week with 17 points in Tuesday&8217;s 48-37 area win over Vestavia Hills. Josh Magette added 11 in the win.

Thompson claims area title: Thompson completed regular season sweeps over Pelham, 66-39, and Jackson-Olin, 74-55, on the week to claim the are Class 6A, Area 10 title. Jaquez Brown and Laderreous Kelley each scored 11 in Friday&8217;s defeat over Pelham, while Kelley added 26 in Tuesday&8217;s win over Jackson-Olin. Dameion Bland added 15 points, while Gary Cunningham had a double-double 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Kingwood splits week 2-2: Kingwood (12-6) bounced back on top Monday with a 58-36 victory over Cornerstone Christian, led by Cody Owens&8217; 19 points. The Lions defeated Lowndes 62-52 on Saturday, as Owens and Nick Holcombe added 26 and 23 respectively. Earlier in the week, the Lions fell 66-64 to Taylor Road, despite being led by Holcombe&8217;s 25 points and six boards and Owens&8217; 22 points and seven boards. The week began with a 57-46 defeat by No. 8 Evangel Christian, who was led by Chris Hardin with 18 points and Keegn Sanders with 15. Holcombe added 22 for the Lions.

Wildcats sweep the week: Shelby County placed themselves in a position to make a run at the area this Friday, after defeating Chilton County 56-53 on the road last Friday. Andrew Burns led the Cats with 13 points, while Josh Dikis and Richard Sutton had 12 points each. The night before, Dikis led his team with 19 points in an 81-43 defeat of Montevallo. Sutton and Josh Jones each had 12, while Tyrone Buie added 11.

Oak Mountain splits area week: The Eagles fell to Vestavia Hills 58-36 in the first game of the second half of area play Friday. Ronnie Mack led the way with 10 points. Oak Mountain (12-8) defeated Hoover earlier in the week, 63-41. Mack and Stephen Jordan each scored 12 points.

Calera clinches area title: The Eagles clinched the Class 3A, Area 7 title with a 69-64 victory over Leeds Friday, behind Kyle Nichols&8217; 24 points and DeMarcus Dowdell&8217;s 13. Kaderius Lacey led the 15-5, 5-0 Eagles on the boards with seven boards. Earlier in the week, Lacey posted 24 points to lead Calera to a 99-63 victory over Jemison. Wade Hyde added 19. Lacey and Kyle Nichols also added 14 and 13 points respectively in a 76-23 victory over Indian Springs.

Indian Springs drops pair: Keehn Strange led Indian Springs (3-11) with nine points in Friday&8217;s

71-31 loss to Altamont. Will Smith led his team with seven points in the loss to Calera.

Pelham loses two: Despite a game-high 18 points from Devon Harris, the Panthers fell to 0-4 in the area with th loss to Thompson. Steven Clark provided another game-high performance in a loss with 22 points against Briarwood.

Hope gets a lift: Adam Davis posted 31 points and 10 assists to lead Hope Christian to an 80-64 victory over Tabernacle Christian on Friday. Carson Bennett added 18 points and 10 boards while Jarrod Robertson added 13 points and six steals.

Chelsea edged by Shades Mountain: Despite 16 points by Matt Wooten, the Hornets (6-18) were edged by Shades Mountain 48-47 on Friday.

Shelby Academy falls to top team: Jacob Lumkin&8217;s 20 points was not enough, as the Raiders fell to No. 7 Bessemer Academy 69- 46
