Chelsea now has four new members of its park and recreation committee.

Mayor Earl Niven recommended Mike Shoemaker, Johnny Rich, Jerry Harkins and Mike Fant for their work and involvement in youth sports.

&8220;These four are very involved in the youth club and associated with football, softball, basketball and baseball. They will give great insight to the city regarding the park and the views and needs of the people so we can do more for the youth,&8221; Niven said.

The mayor also said the city is in the process of developing a new softball complex on Shelby County 39.

&8220;We have three fields we are getting ready to begin bids for irrigation, sod, fence and lighting,&8221; Niven said.

Last month, the city drilled a 250-foot well that produces 70 gallons of water a minute to irrigate the fields.

Niven added that $400,000 was set into the 2007 budget for more work at the softball complex. &8220;The recommendations have already been approved, now it is just a matter of approving bids, and then we will look forward to a good softball year,&8221; Niven said
