Calera one and out in Central Region

All good things must come to an end and, unfortunately for the Calera Eagles, they did Thursday afternoon as the Eagles fell to the Greensboro Raiders 56-47 in the Central Regional Class 3A boys semifinals, ending their season at 22-8.

No stranger to the post season, the Eagles made their way to Alabama State University with a goal of advancing to the Final Four.

The contest opened up with both teams struggling from the field with the Eagles shooting 39.1 percent from the field and hitting only 9-of-23 attempts.

Luckily for the Eagles, the mere 10-for-31 first half outing of the Raiders only had the Eagles trailing by three at the half, 24-21.

A second half effort came up short for the Eagles, as they could not overcome the lack of production on the offensive side, which mirrored that of the first half.

Despite a game where the Eagles trailed all but one point during the game, they were in the position to bring the game down to the final seconds, with a chance to win.

Greensboro went 6-for-7 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal it.

Kaderius Lacey led the Eagles with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Kyle Nichols followed up with 11 points.

Ivory White led all scorers with 17 points and Dontae Reaves added 14 for the Raiders.

The Eagles close the season with 22 wins and an area championship.
