Carl Jackson Mooney

Carl Jackson Mooney, 81, of High Point, N.C., died Tuesday, Feb. 20 at his home on Wildwood Avenue.

Carl was born to Richard Eugene and Ruby Leigh Mooney on June 15, 1925 in Columbiana.

He graduated from Shelby County High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, during WWII, where he served his country for 27 years. He was a Master Mason for 49 years with Dorchester Lodge #369 A. F & A. M., in Charleston, SC.

On Jan. 31, 1949, Carl married the love of his life, Lucille Shelley. They have been soul mates for 58 years.

In addition to his loving and caring wife, Lucille Shelley Mooney, Carl is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Bob Ambrose; two loving grandchildren, Ross Elloitt Ambrose and Shelley Evelyn Ambrose all of High Point; a brother, Jerry Mooney; two sisters, Sara Gail Conn and Linda Jo Chandler, all of Columbiana and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Robert Mooney, Jeanette Spradley and Caroline Mooney. The funeral service was held at 11 AM Saturday, Feb. 24 in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service on Eastchester Dr. The Rev. James Capps presided. He was buried in Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery in Winston-Salem.
