Birthday wishes can now come true for some foster children with the help of some local ladies&8217; group.

Foster care is temporary housing and parenting given to children who have not been adopted.

Many times these homes are filled with multiple children and it can be costly for foster parents to pay for lavish gifts, if any gift at all.

To help parents give more, the Alabama Foster and Adoptive Parents Association set-up the Birthday Wish Foundation.

The group provides foster parents with gift cards, some worth $100, to give birthday festivities and gifts, according to a release by the Southern Women&8217;s Committee of Fifty, a local women&8217;s group that supports the program.

&8220;Recognizing that it is often a hardship for foster parents to afford the extras that most children take for granted on their birthday, the Birthday Wish Program was developed,&8221; stated the release.

To help support the program, the Committee of Fifty will be hosting a luncheon in late March to raise money.

The lunch will honor three southern notables, Cassandra King, a novelist, Ann McMillan, civic activist and Cynthia Lamar-Hart, area attorney.

&8220;All are women of accomplishment and civic responsibility,&8221; stated the group.

The luncheon is March 29, at 11 a.m. Proceeds will go to the Birthday Wish program, as well as help fund Southern Women&8217;s Committee of Fifty Scholarship Endowment Fund, which provides scholarships to Jefferson State Community College students.
