FROM STAFF REPORTS

Pelham mayor Bobby Hayes told his staff and city council members last Monday that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Hayes said he will undergo surgery later this month and will take three to four weeks off to recover.

In the meantime, the mayor will be in and out of the office for tests connected to the surgery and following treatments. &8220;I&8217;m confident the department heads will continue to do their jobs without any problems,&8221; said Hayes, on how the city will operate during his time off.

Hayes, who has served as Pelham’s mayor since 1984, says bone scans do not show any spreading of the cancer
