Woman charged with leaving kids home alone

A Calera woman has been charged with child endangerment after police say she left three young children at home alone.

Calera police have charged Nakita Clark Oden, 42, with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of operating an unlicensed daycare and one count of operating a business without a license.

Bond has been set at $2,100, said Police Chief Tommy Palmer in a statement.

Police and the Shelby County Department of Human Resources were called to a home in the 100 block of Sunset Lane Wednesday, March 7 on a tip that young children were being left unattended.

When police arrived around 11 a.m., they found three children alone, ages ranging from 6 months to 4 years. Oden is the mother of one of the children, the statement said.

Oden was questioned at her home and was allowed to turn herself in to the Calera Police Department on the warrants
