Calera High School strung together 15 runs over 11 innings to split a doubleheader at Montevallo on Thursday. They posted seven straight in a 9-7 game one loss

and eight-straight to win the night cap 8-1.

&8220;About the fourth inning (of game one) we finally got our bats uncorked a little bit,&8221; said Calera head coach Steven Floyd. &8220;We didn&8217;t get a lot of hits off of them in the second game, we just hit the ball at the right time.&8221;

Danny Barefield had a pair of two-run homeruns in the fourth and seventh innings of game two, while Austin Jenkins had a bases-clearing triple in the sixth. The Eagles collected all of their runs on three of their five hits in the game.

Jeff Roper (0-2) made his fourth appearance of the season for Montevallo, allowing just one hit through five innings of work in game two. He also pitched two innings for the save in game one, allowing one run on one hit and six strikeouts on the day.

&8220;He pitched a great game, especially for a freshman,&8221; Floyd said.

Montevallo&8217;s Kyle Stewart (4-1) held the Eagles scoreless through three innings, while holding a 9-0 lead in the first game of the day.

&8220;Kyle has been a nice surprise addition to this year&8217;s team,&8221; said Montevallo head coach Brent McCaleb, who said Stewart tried out for the team this season after being cut as s sophomore.

The Dawgs took the large lead early with the help of Dallas Lucas, who was 3-for-3 with a walk and three stolen bases. Lucas&8217; base running helped put him in position to score three times, scoring the first run of the game on a Calera error in the first inning. Montevallo scored four runs in the second off an RBI walk, a hit batter and two wild pitches. They scored three more in the third off a walk and a two-run single by Zac Stansel.

Trent Posey led off the fourth inning of game one with a triple, later scoring on an error to put Calera on the scoreboard. The Eagles followed with two more runs in the fifth inning with RBIs from Winter Bottom and Posey. Both players collected two hits in the game.

Montevallo (4-6) fell at Thorsby 3-2 Monday and traveled to West Blocton Tuesday, however results were not available at press time.

Calera (7-6) defeated West Blocton 9-5 on Friday
