Dr. Harold Jennings (Doc) Hall, 81, of Columbiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born July 20, 1925, to Sam and Elsie Hall in Hopewell.

He was of the Baptist faith and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Columbiana. He attended Inglenook High School before serving in the U. S. Army from 1942-1946.

After serving, he attended Howard College (now Samford University), while working at Alabama By-Products, until he graduated.

At that time, he entered the University of Alabama for Medical School from 1949-1952.

He completed his internship at Jacksonville, Florida and received his Doctorate of Medicine.

He opened his first medical practice office in Center Point and remained there until 1955.

He then moved to Columbiana and established his medical practice there, serving Columbiana and surrounding communities for 30 years.

During his 33 years of medical practice, he was more than a doctor to his patients; he became their friend, all the while raising a family of six children.

He spent many long days (and nights), making personal house calls to those in need of care and delivered more than 3000 babies.

He was a member of the board that established the Shelby Memorial Hospital, now known as Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

He donated to the Shelby Shores Association, property located in Shelby Shores, which was later dedicated as Hall Park.

He assisted and encouraged many individuals in their establishing businesses that would serve the people of Columbiana. Upon his retirement, he moved to Punta Gorda, Florida for 14 years and then returned to Columbiana.

In his retirement years he enjoyed watching Alabama Crimson Tide football games, golfing, fishing, reading, doing crossword puzzles and visiting with friends daily at Davis Drug Store, while eating hamburgers they made especially for him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Elsie Hall and his brother Ross Hall. His memory will be lovingly cherished by his family and friends.

He is survived by three sons, Harold &8220;Jinks&8221; (Vickie) Hall of Dothan, Kit (Sherry) Hall of Columbiana, Yance (Michelle) Hall of Birmingham; three daughters, Lynne Hall of Alabaster, Laura Hall of Columbiana and Beth Taylor of Columbiana; 12 grandchildren, Adam (Amy) Hall of Cowart, Crisy Hall of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Julie and Bethany Hall of Columbiana, Vallerie Paulin of Birmingham, Madison and Regan Hall of Birmingham, Jared Defoor of Columbiana, Sidney Madden of Columbiana, Erin and Dustin Hall of Columbiana and Jake Taylor of Columbiana; and one great-grandchild, Hayden Cowart; two brothers, Dr. Earl Hall of Montgomery and Vernon Hall of Tarrant; the mother of his children, Christine Chambliss of Columbiana; and a host of nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

The family would like to thank also the women who worked lovingly as his sitters in assisting the family, Wiregrass Hospice, Dr. Nolen, the doctors and nurses of UAB Hospital, Trinity Baptist and Shelby Baptist, the singers who came to sing for him on his last day at home and all the friends who visited, prayed and shared their memories of &8220;Doc Hall&8221; with the family. Visitation and viewing was held Friday, March 30, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Columbiana.

The funeral service was held Saturday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Columbiana. He was buried at Pinelawn Gardens. Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directied.

A reception and dinner for the family will follow the service at Columbiana United Methodist Fellowship Hall.

All friends are invited to attend the reception.
