It&8217;s never over &8217;til it&8217;s over.

Oak Mountain and Hoover learned that Friday night, as the No. 2 Eagles watched a 3-1 lead disapear in the sixth and seventh inning, but rallied in the eighth to complete a week-long sweep of No. 4 Hoover, 6-3, and win the Class 6A, Area 11 championship.

The Eagles were ready to celebrate a game-ending 6-4-3 double play, but Alex Head beat the throw to first, allowing Dustin Daugherty to score the unearned, game-tying run to force extra innings, leaving the Oak Mountain dugout a little angry and hungry for a win.

&8220;(Being a little angry) helps me focus a little bit better and realize what&8217;s going on. I think that&8217;s just how it is for the whole team,&8221; said starting pitcher Brad Hendrix.

Hendrix used his anger to fuel a lead-off double in the top of the eighth inning and later scored the winning run.

&8220;We didn&8217;t want to do too much, because we knew we could still win it. Nobody was trying to hit it out, but just do the little things, and that&8217;s how we won,&8221; Hendrix said.

The Eagles took advantage of two Bucs&8217; errors in the eighth to help produce a three-run inning. Austin Trammell shut down the Bucs in the bottom half of the inning for the win. Ross Wilson reached base on an error at third base to lead off the first inning for Hoover and later scored on an RBI single by Tommy Sikora to put the Bucs up 1-0.

Oak Mountain jumped on the board in the fifth with the help of two Hoover errors and RBIs by L.J. Vatella and Clay Kyzar.

Harold Collins drove in a run for the Bucs in the sixth.

Oak Mountain started the week with a 5-4 win over Hoover at home with the help of a walk-off home run by Nathan Moore.

Spain Park (21-11) swept Vetavia Hills (19-10) last week and will battle Hoover (28-7) this week for second place in the area. Spain Park needs to beat the Bucs twice to advance to the playoffs. The Eagles (24-6) look to complete a sweep of area opponents with a two-game Vestavia series. Tuesday&8217;s results were not available at press time
