Tied 2-2 in a penalty kick shoot-out Friday evening, Marissa Tomaseski connected on the fifth penalty kick for Oak Mountain to lift the No. 6 Lady Eagles past

No. 1 Spain Park 1-0.

The win places Oak Mountain (9-5-2, 4-1) in first place in Class 6A, Section 5.

&8220;It was a great game for -s to win. We have to make sure that we keep focused the rest of the season and into the playoffs,&8221; said Lady Eagles&8217; head coach Kelly Christoffer.

Spain Park battled to a scoreless tie with the Lady Eagles through 90 minutes without midfielder Addie Ragsdale.

Ragsdale went down with an ankle sprain in the third minute of play. She returned to play goalkeeper for the shootout.

Lauren Byrd collected nine saves in net for Oak Mountain during regulation, while Emily Hoffman had 16 for the Lady Jaguars.

Oak Mountain fell 3-2 to Huntsville on Saturday. Victoria Frederick scored the game winner in the 65th minute after Kathryn Allison and Megan Jones scored goals to open the second half and tie the match 2-2. Cunningham had 10 saves.

Spain Park (12-4-1, 5-2) battled Vestavia Hills (15-2-1, 6-2) for second place in the section Tuesday night. Results were not available at press time.

The top two teams from the section will advance to the state playoffs.

OMHS travels to Hoover and Pelham this week for section games.

-Thompson shuts out Tuscaloosa County: Mary Morris scored four goals in the first half to help lead Thompson to a 10-0 win at Tuscaloosa County Saturday. Sarah Waremburg added two goals and an assist in the win. Four other players had one goal each, while Meghan Hubbard collected four saves in the net.

Thompson (14-6-1) looks to complete a sweep of Section 6 and extend their win streak to nine games when they host Northridge Friday night.
