The Chelsea Hornets continue to own the Shelby County Wildcats on the baseball diamond, taking two games from the Wildcats at home Friday night 14-4 and 8-4 in Class 5A, Area 6 play. With the two wins, the Hornets swept the Wildcats for the second consecutive year and inched one step closer to securing a playoff berth.

In game one, the Wildcats jumped out to a quick 4-2 lead with a second-inning two-RBI triple by Graham Davis, however, the Hornets patiently chipped away as the game rolled along. Holding the Wildcats to one run in the fifth, the Hornets hoisted five runs with back-to-back two out, two-RBI hits by Coty McLaughlin and Blake Woo.

The Hornets outscored the Wildcats 12-0 from the third inning on for the win.

finished the game a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two RBIs respectively for the Hornets. McLaughlin collected the win.

Davis and Dustin Bunn both finished with two hits and two RBIs for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats led 3-2 in the nightcap going into the bottom of the fifth, but 11 batters later, the Hornets exploded with a six-run inning to cruise on for the win.

Hudspeth claimed the win for Chelsea with assistance from Zach Hilliard and Phillip Heard both going 2-for-3 at the plate, along with Jake Birdsong&8217;s three RBIs.

Braten Dill had two hits, including a double and RBI for SCHS, while Lane Todd also had two hits.

&8220;These are two great wins for our program and for a great rivalry,&8221; Chelsea head coach Jason Smith said. &8220;I thought we executed well in every aspect of the game. I am just proud of our boys to be able to win on Senior Night.

The road to the playoffs for the Hornets depends on last night&8217;s game at Sylacauga. A win over Sylacauga guarantees a spot in the post season.

The Wildcats find themselves on an eight-game losing skid with one area game remaining with Chilton County.

In other games: Oak Mountain completed a Class 6A, Area 11 sweep with wins over Vestavia Hills on the week, 10-1 and 11-1. Spain Park forced a one-game playoff with Hoover for second place in Area 11 after defeating the Bucs 5-2 last Tuesday, but falling to Hoover 12-4 Thursday.
