James H. Popwell, 66, of Thorsby, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. He was born Tuesday, April 1, 1941 in Chilton county. He was the son of the late Johnny Popwell and the late Dyzina Friday Popwell. He was a carpenter.

He is survived by his son, Keith Popwell of Thorsby; daughter, Debra Popwell Hunt of Thorsby; two stepsons, David Delaney and Chris Delaney of Alridge; stepdaughter, Roxanne Littleton of Montevallo; five grandsons; four brothers, Willie Popwell of Chicago, Shine Popwell of Clanton, Junior Popwell of Clanton and Buddy Popwell of Jemison; and two sisters, Dean Sanders of Maplesville and Gracie Kemp of Maplesville.

Friends were received Tuesday, April 10 from 6-8 p.m. at Martin Chapel. The funeral service was held Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at 2 p.m. at South Shelby Baptist Church. The Rev. Tom Minor presided. Internment followed at Thorsby City Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home directed.
