What&8217;s the difference between 2A and 3A baseball? Apparently not much if you&8217;re the Calera Eagles.

The Eagles completed a Class 3A, Area 7 sweep Friday with a 4-1 victory over Indian Springs to finish with a 6-0 area record and their second area title in three years.

&8220;Moving up a level and being able to actually do better is a good sign of the kids we have and the times to come,&8221; head coach Steven Floyd said. The Eagles swept through region play as a member of Class 2A in 2005 and were runner-up in 2006.

Trent Posey helped lead the way from the plate for the Eagles as he collected an RBI in the first and added a two-run double in the third. He later scored on a fielder&8217;s choice by Brian Watts to give Calera an early 4-0 lead.

Danny Barefield, who had a triple and two walks from the plate, carried a one-hitter through four innings before allowing three more hits and a walk in his final two innings of work for the win.

&8220;He pitched a pretty good ball game. I thought he controlled the Indian Springs hitters. He kept his walks and runs down,&8221; Floyd said.

Indian Springs scored its lone run in the seventh inning.

The Eagles will now take a week off from play over spring break but will conduct an intra-squad game on Friday to help prepare for their first-round playoff game with Montevallo on April 24.

&8220;We split with them during the season, and I think we match up with them pretty good. It ought to be a good ball game,&8221; Floyd said.

Montevallo (9-9) advances to their first playoff appearance in more than a decade as runner up in Area 6 after losing two games to Gordo during the week, 9-0 on Tuesday and 8-1 on Friday
