Just give her the ball and watch her work; that&8217;s what Thompson girl&8217;s soccer coach Nathan Button does when Mary Morris is playing up front.

&8220;No one can ever predict where her first touch is going,&8221; Button said. &8220;You don&8217;t know if she&8217;s going to put it in between your legs, flick it over your head or if she is going to go outside or inside. She may fake both of those and just stand there and look at you. Her creativity makes her unpredictable. It&8217;s phenomenal.&8221;

Morris demonstrated her talent five times Friday night to help lead Thompson to their first-ever area title in an 8-0 win over Northridge on senior night.

&8220;I&8217;m so happy. It&8217;s never happened in Thompson history before, and I&8217;m so happy that our seniors who have been with the program for so long can go out like that, because they have been with this team at its worst and at its best,&8221; Morris said.

Morris entered the game with 38 goals on the season and 98 in her career. It didn&8217;t take long for her to find No. 99, scoring in the opening minutes. She followed with an assist to Sarah Waremburg and then chipped in No. 100 with 18:19 to play in the half. She&8217;d add two more before the end of the period and a fifth in the 55th minute.

&8220;I&8217;m really proud of myself and I&8217;m really proud of my team, because I was nowhere without them. Every 100 goals is 100 passes,&8221; she said.

Waremburg and Kacey Chance each added second-half goals. Thompson (15-6-1) is currently on a nine-game win streak. They will host No. 2 Vestavia Hills (18-2-1) in the first round of the playoffs. VHHS beat Thompson 4-0 earlier this year.

&8220;With Mary&8217;s [Morris] supporting cast, I really think we could upset someone like Vestavia. I really don&8217;t think we are an Over the Mountain regular yet, but I think we will be,&8221; Button said
