Parents will have the unique opportunity May 1 to learn how to protect their children from online dangers.

&8220;Lost in Cyberspace&8221; will be presented at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center in Alabaster at 6:30 p.m.

The program, taught by experts in the field of Internet safety, will discuss current trends in Internet crime. It will also focus on the potential dangers of MySpace, the facebook and online chatrooms. There will also be a question and answer session.

&8220;Today, the spread of the Internet allows the most depraved among us to invade our homes and access our children in unprecedented ways,&8221; said Jean Davis, director of special projects in the state attorney general&8217;s office. &8220;As the threat and danger have changed, too must our response.&8221;

The program is a joint project of the Department of Children&8217;s Affairs, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, the state Department of Education and the Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention.

Due to the nature of the lecture, children younger than 19 will not be allowed in.
