Brookwood Medical Center is contesting a plan put forth by St. Vincent&8217;s Hospital that would add a multi-service ambulatory surgery center to its One Nineteen Health and Wellness campus in Hoover.

St. Vincent&8217;s filed a Certificate of Need application on Feb. 28 with the State Health and Planning and Development Agency, proposing the $10.6 million project. All hospitals must seek approval from the Certificate of Need Board before they can open a new facility or expand space or services.

Concerned parties had until April 20 to submit opposition. Brookwood, which cited in its state filing a lack of need and community support for the One Nineteen addition, submitted its own Certificate of Need for a surgery center March 8.

The proposed date for a public hearing on St. Vincent&8217;s request is June 20. The hospital expects a final decision from the State Health Planning and Development Agency by July 5
