Lady Eagles take down Shelby County

Oak Mountain (22-27) used a four-run third inning to knock off Shelby County 5-3 in the Lady Eagles&8217; final game of the regular season Monday.

&8220;This is a win that can give us the confidence we need to get back on track going into the area,&8221; Oak Mountain head coach Danny Dubose said.

The game began with a pitchers&8217; duel, as the Lady Wildcats&8217; Kassadie Jones was perfect through two innings with three strikeouts, before allowing consecutive walks to start the third inning.

Claire Thomasson led off the third inning with a walk and later slid past Wildcats&8217; catcher Katie Dorough for the first run of the game on a fielder&8217;s choice by Louise Gibson. Three more runs were scored in the third off an error and passed ball.

Shelby County responded in the top of the fourth, collecting three runs off Oak Mountain pitcher Sarah Morton.

Brooklyn Phillips collected a one-out base hit to start the rall, as she and Jessica Pennington scored on an error to cut the lead in half. Cycola Buie later collected an RBI single to drive in Dorough, who reached on the error that scored the first two runs.

Morton managed to get a pop fly to center field and strikeout to end the inning.

Oak Mountain added an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI single from Erin Carpenter as Gibson closed the game in the circle, allowing just one base runner.

Oak Mountain faces Hoover in the area tournament Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The tournament is being played in Vestavia. Spain Park meets Hoover at 4 p.m. Shelby County travels to Chelsea for its area tournament Thursday at 1 p.m.

-No-nos for Montevallo: Montevallo split the weekend at the Northside Invitational, defeating Hale County 14-4 and Northside 10-0. Anna Nix tossed her second no-hitter of

the week in the win over Northside, after tossing a 15-0 no-hitter last Monday.

Montevallo (19-12) lost the final two games of the tournament to American Christian 4-2 and Northside 7-2
