A former Bessemer city councilman has been appointed Montevallo&8217;s new city clerk and treasurer.

Herman Lehman served as a Bessemer city councilman for four years and as the city&8217;s assistant to the mayor and city clerk for another four.

Lehman is a graduate of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. He also holds two graduate degrees &045;&045; a MBA from UAB and a Master of Science in environmental management from Samford University.

He served on the Bessemer-area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, spending two years as its chair.

In addition, Lehman is past president of the Bessemer Historical Homeowners Association and a former member of the city&8217;s Board of Zoning Adjustments and Appeals.

Lehman and his wife, Susan, a former special education teacher at Montevallo Elementary, lived in Bessemer for the last 11 years but are now looking for a new home in Montevallo
