Home field advantage is always nice, but no team had the chance to experience such a treat in Tuesday&8217;s Alabama Community College Conference Tournament championship &045; just one player.

Former Thompson High School outfielder, Sarah Wilson, helped her Wallace State Community College in Hanceville team sweep through the winners&8217; bracket and advance to the

title game Tuesday with a mix of strong defense in centerfield and clutch hitting.

&8220;She&8217;s a pleasant surprise, and we knew she could play, but she&8217;s really come on strong the past six weeks,&8221; said Wallace head coach Jayne Clem, who makes her eighth consecutive trip to the championship game as head coach.

Wilson&8217;s big hits include an RBI triple to help set the pace in Saturday&8217;s win over Gadsden State and fellow Thompson alum Ashley Blankenship. Wilson also capped a rally Sunday night by driving in the game-winning run against defending state champions Central Alabama Community College.

CACC&8217;s Nikki Moses avoided elimination of the eight-time champion Lady Trojans with a walk-off home run Monday afternoon to defeat Wallace State-Dothan 5-4. They went on to defeat Calhoun Community College 7-6 in similar fashion that night with a walk-off shot by Sarah Moore in the bottom of the ninth. In the night cap, they defeated Bevill State Community College in Sumiton 3-1 to advance to Tuesday&8217;s championship. Results were not available at press time.

The tournament is in its third year at Alabaster&8217;s Veterans Park and has one year remaining on its contract. They will rebid next year to continue to host the event.
