Oak Mountain High School track and field coaches Marty Springfield was relieved of their duties Monday, May 9 according to OMHS athletic director Jerry Hood.

&8220;At the end of the year a lot of things happen, and this is part of it,&8221; Hood said referring to annual personnel changes. &8220;Coach did a fine job for us. We just have to take a different direction at this time.&8221;

Springfield, who says he was surprised by the move, helped guide the Oak Mountain boys and girls track teams to a third place finish and six individual first

place finishes at the state outdoor meet in Gulf Shores earlier this month.

&8220;I certainly enjoyed all of my time working at Oak Mountain with all of the athletes and wish them nothing but success in the future.,&8221; Springfield said. He says he hopes Oak Mountain can continue on the track to success.

Currently, Springfield plans to remain as a teacher at the Shelby County Alternative School in Alabaster, and is pursuing other coaching possibilities.

&8220;I&8217;ve already been talking with several other programs, and hope one of those will work out,&8221; Springfield said
