Falcon duo earns honors

University of Montevallo senior outfielder J.D. Pruitt has been named to the third team of the 2007 Daktronics All-American Team.

Pruitt, along with senior first baseman Daniel Tankersley, were named to the first team of the Daktronics All-South Central Region team.

Pruitt batted .366 for UM in 57 games, led the team in walks (52), stolen bases (48), and runs scored (73), while collecting nine home runs and 42 RBIs. He was named to the first team All-Gulf South Conference and was named GSC East Division Player of the Week on Feb. 13.

Tankersley, a native of Dothan, batted .344 for UM in 64 games, led the team in RBIs (70) and was second on the team in home runs (11) and base hits (85). He was also named the Gulf South Conference East Division Player of the Year, first team All-GSC and second team All-Region by the America Baseball Coaches Association.

More than half of the Daktronics and ABCA All-South Central Region Teams were comprised of GSC players, as the conference had 18 of 30 spots on the Daktronics team and half of the 32 ABCA selections.

The GSC, whose main office is located off Valleydale Road in Hoover, also had nine of the 11 Rawlings/ABCA Gold Glove awards
