John Larry Knowles, 63, of Alabaster passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2007.

He was a lifelong resident of Shelby County and a member of Concord Baptist Church. He was retired from Carmeuse Lime in Saginaw after 40 years of service. Knowles was a Mason and a former member of the Board of Directors of Shelby Academy.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sarah Nabors Knowles; a daughter, Angela (Chris) Douglas of Chelsea; a sister, Barbara (Harold) Pickett of Montevallo; a brother, James &8220;Jimmy&8221; (Mildred) Knowles; one niece and four nephews.

Knowles loved being a grandfather to his only grandchild, Connor Douglas of Chelsea. John&8217;s sense of humor and loving spirit will be forever remembered.

The funeral service was held at Rockco&8217;s Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, May 29 at 11 a.m. with burial in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera. The Rev. Milton Simpson presided
