Columbiana Mayor Allan Lowe has spent time at our home recently and it has been a pleasure.

He made proclamations for Nurses Week and Nursing Home Week plus was a judge in the Ms. Columbiana Health and Rehab pageant.

I would like to thank him for his involvement and the meaning it conveys to our staff and residents.

He recognizes that we are a small part of the community of Columbiana but a large part of the community for people who live here.

Mayor Lowe is active in an area that matters, our elders. He and our community of family and friends are always welcome at Columbiana Health and Rehab.

Girl Scout Troop No. 159 of the Cahaba Council-Oak Mountain, which is led by Robin Walker, recently celebrated their end of the year with a party on Lake Martin.

As the Memorial holiday approaches, we all should take the time to reflect on the sacrifices of the men and women in uniform.

These 10-year-old Girl Scouts did!

They learned the proper procedures for a disposal ceremony of the American flag. Several flags were donated by local business for proper disposal.

The girls conducted the ceremony and read out the names and ranks of the 36 fallen soldiers from Alabama. A salutation and prayer were given for these soldiers, our President and the fallen soldiers from the other 49 states.

As the ambers rose from the fire, each Girl Scout learned a new meaning behind the symbolism of the American flag and what it stands for.

Remember why you have the day off from work and give thanks and prayer to the men and women in service from the past to the future.
