Pro womens golf coming to Calera

With women’s golf on the rise across America, according to a PGA report, a new women’s professional golf tour has formed and plans to bring their game to Calera.

Timberline Golf Course will host the fifth installment of the inaugural Pro Women’s Victory Golf Tour June 2-8, 2008.

Timberline will be the only Alabama stop on the tour, as the 2008 schedule will kick-off in Orlando on April 28, followed by Jacksonville, Fla., Atlanta, Nashville, Ashville, N.C., Washington D.C. and Snow Hill, Md. The tour is expected to grow to 12 cities in 2009 and 18 by 2010.

The tour was launched on April 30 by the Global Victory Foundation, a not-for-profit organization who says its focus is “on improving health and wellness of girls and young women through golf.”

Purses for the 2008 tour with be $100,000 and will increase to $125,000 in 2009 and $150,000 in 2010
