A pick-up truck traveling on Interstate 65 struck and killed a pedestrian May 29.

Johnny Lee Holmes Jr., 42, of Alabaster was hit when he attempted to cross the interstate just south of the 238 Alabaster exit around 10:25 p.m. Shelby County Coroner Diana Hawkins said Holmes was pronounced dead on the scene.

State troopers reports said the driver, a 39-year-old from Tennessee, was traveling in a 2002 Dodge Ram when the accident occurred. Doris Teague, State Trooper public information officer, said the preliminary report states that the driver tried to avoid Holmes. Teague said no charges have been pressed
