HELENA &8212; Local filmmakers Steve Moon and Frankie Carra are putting out a casting call of sorts. No, they aren&8217;t looking for actors; they want actual filmmakers to star in this year&8217;s Cahaba Film Festival Sept. 28-29.

&8220;We want the buzz to go around and want people talking about it because we want local filmmakers to get behind their cameras and bring as much local feel as possible,&8221; Moon said.

This is the second year for the fall event. There is no entry fee for filmmakers, but submissions must be in by July 31.

&8220;Being a filmmaker myself, I am used to the frustration of getting your work out there,&8221; Moon said. &8220;We want to give someone that opportunity who might not have $500 to rent out a theater to show what they have produced.&8221;

The two filmmakers say the festival opens more doors than just people being able to view a film.

&8220;Having this network of filmmakers allows new people to find the connections they need to get started,&8221; Carra said.

This year&8217;s event will take place with screenings on both Friday and Saturday night and food, vendors and a car show on Saturday. Admission to see the movies and car show will be $5. The money raised goes toward a local Shelby County filmmakers group. The group meets once a month, so screenwriters and filmmakers can get together and talk about the trade and projects they are working on.
