PELHAM &8212; A public hearing is scheduled for tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Pelham City Hall to discuss updates to the city&8217;s zoning ordinances.

City officials gave citizens until June 8 to submit written comments or complaints. This hearing, along with another one, will be residents&8217; last chance to voice concerns.

Mike Morgan, Pelham revenue director, said the city is attempting to modernize codes drafted in the 1970s.

Changes in the proposal include new districts for garden homes, townhouses and apartments as well as codes for mixed-use areas, allowing people to live and work in the same area. Other provisions focus on curb appeal, calling for sidewalks, screening for outside storage and restrictions on signage and parking.

After hearing public comments, the planning commission will vote on the ordinance and revised zoning map. Anyone interested in reviewing the ordinance can visit www.pelhamonline.com. Once the ordinance and map are approved, the documents will be submitted to the city council for approval.
