Virginia Evans Condrey

Virginia Evans Condrey, age 89, of Montevallo, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2007. She was retired from the Terrebonne Parish School Board in Houma, Louisiana, and the Pelham United Methodist Church in Pelham, Alabama. A 1935 graduate of Alabama College, Virginia grew up in Longview, Camp Branch and Saginaw in Shelby County before taking a position in the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations in Montgomery.

During WWII, Virginia lived in San Francisco while her husband, Samuel Emerson Condrey served in the Merchant Marines. After the war, they moved to New Orleans and Houma, where they raised a family.

For the past 32 years, Virginia lived in Montevallo and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel, and her brother Bill Evans. She is survived by her three children, Charlotte, Richard (Rosalind) and Stephen (Samantha Webb), three grandchildren (Michelle, Stephanie, Claire), four sisters (Margaret Glasscock, Sara Comer, Mary Louise Wells, Rebecca Robinson), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at 1 p.m. with funeral services following at 2 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home, 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, with pastors Bill Brown and Buddy Freeman officiating. Burial will take place at Pelham Cemetery.
