Janie represents the third generation of her family offering themselves for public service. Her great-uncle, the late Olin Hearn, served in the Alabama House of Representatives. Her father, the late Excell Baker, also served in the House of Representatives. Her brother, John Baker, served in both chambers of the Alabama legislature. Janie is a graduate of Crossville High School, Crossville, Ala. She is a graduate of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with both Bachelor and Masters degrees
