Briarwood Christian junior quarterback Barrett Trotter has been a leader for the Lions since he started under center as a sophomore.

A year later, he’s hoping to take on even more responsibility.

“I expect more out of myself this year than last, especially on the offensive side of the ball.”

Through a difficult schedule of games in 2005, including matchups against eventual state champion Homewood and Class 6A Thompson, Trotter helped the Lions earn a 10-2 record and an appearance in the third round of the AHSAA 5A playoffs.

“We expect to go deep into the playoffs every year,” he said. “Every year we’re state contenders.”

He hopes to keep his team in contention this season by building off some impressive stats from 2005.

Trotter completed 177 of 287 passes for 2,074 yards and 19 touchdowns last year.

“Going from year to year you want to do better than last year in the stat category,” he said. “I’m hoping to build on that this season.
