Three coaches from Shelby County were recognized Thursday at the annual Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association (AHSADCA) luncheon in Huntsville for winning state championships during the 2006-07 year.

Briarwood’s Jim Brown was recognized for the second-consecutive season after his Class 5A boys’ golf team posted the best state tournament round of any classification in May at Grand National Golf Course in Opelika. Spain Park’s Virginia Tucker was recognized for the first time for her boys’ tennis team’s Class 6A championship in Mobile. Donald Clayton, administrative head coach for Oak Mountain soccer, was recognized for the Class 6A title captured by the Oak Mountain boys’ soccer team, which was coached by Justin Pratt.

Briarwood soccer coaches Mark Wallace and Ryan Leib were not recognized for the school’s sweep in of Class 5A soccer championships, because neither coach is a member of the AHSADCA
