NORTH SHELBY – The Birmingham YMCA recently partnered with North Shelby County resident Harvey Nix to teach local children how to ride bicycles.

The first official series of “No Training Wheels,” a training method developed by Nix, concluded Friday at the Greystone YMCA with 19 children ages 2-9 participating.

“Some parents were admittedly hesitant at first, but with three of the four scheduled classes complete and more than half of the children riding without training wheels, they now believe in the power and simplicity of the training method,” said Nix, who also authored a book on the subject.

Additional sessions are scheduled to begin Sept. 8 at the Greystone YMCA and will be offered on four consecutive Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. for ages 2-4 and 10:30-11:30 a.m. for ages 5 and up.
