FROM STAFF REPORTS

Several Shelby County residents will perform in the classic musical comedy “Guys and Dolls” presented by the Chilton Civic Chorale and Pops. The performance will be held at Thorsby High School July 27-28 at 7:30 p.m. and July 29 at 2 p.m. It is directed by Lee Windham and conducted by Randi Penton.

Set in New York City in the early 1950s, the story follows two main plots connected by a single interest-gambling. While one “high roller” pursues an inner-city missionary, another is pursued by his fianc/e of 14 years who hopes to get him to the altar in her lifetime. The plot revolves around a floating crap game and takes several humorous twists on the road to its conclusion.

Shelby County residents involved in the production include Jeff Walker of Montevallo as Nathan Detroit (a “tinhorn gambler”), Susan Martin of the University of Montevallo as Adelaide (Detroit’s fianc/e), Mary Emfinger of Montevallo, Robin and Suzanne Messer of Alabaster and several UM music students
