PELHAM – State Rep. Cam Ward recently presented a grant for $20,000 to Pelham High School for upgrading and improvements of the track at Ned Bearden Stadium.

Ward worked with Pelham principal Bob Lavett and Pelham Mayor Bobby Hayes in securing the grant, part of the community service grants program appropriated for the 2006-07 Alabama Education Trust Fund budget.

“I think the City of Pelham and Pelham High School should be commended for making tremendous strides in providing their students with the best possible facilities. It is truly a testament to how strong this community is,” Ward said in a release. “I hope that this grant is helpful in completing these renovations and I appreciate the opportunity to work with Mayor Hayes and the high school to help move this effort forward.”

The city of Pelham approved $696,200 to be given to the school in March for the installation of Field Turf, an artificial surface at Bearden Stadium. An updated track is part of the stadium upgrade.
