Vincent native Bogie Wood has assumed full-time duties as the Alabama High School Athletic Association Director of Marketing after serving in a part-time role for the past two years.

Wood, who holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences and a master’s degree in athletic administration, will continue to work in the areas of marketing, corporate partner exposure and television/radio media productions.

Before joining the AHSAA, Wood played football at Jacksonville State University and then began his coaching career. Wood also served as a free-lance journalist for five years.

Wood served as an assistant coach at Jacksonville State, Auburn, Samford, West Georgia, Emory & Henry, Eastern New Mexico, Olivet Nazarene, Cumberland and the Birmingham Steeldogs.

During his tenure at the AHSAA, Wood has been involved with the coordination and production of every Super 6 football championship at Legion Field in Birmingham.

“During my six-month tenure at the (AHSAA), Bogie has impressed me with his knowledge of current and new trends in technology,” AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese said in a released statement. “He exemplifies everything we are trying to do when it comes to media relations. What I appreciate is the fact that he was doing full-time work on part-time pay, and now we can have him on board full time.”

Wood is a member of the American Football Coaches Association and served two terms on the national assistant coaches committee. He was also inducted into the National College All-Stars Hall of Fame (coaches’ category) in 1997.

“I am really excited to continue being a part of the Alabama High School Athletic Association staff,” Wood said in a released statement. “Coach Savarese has endorsed the commitment Coach Washburn (retired AHSAA executive director) made to our TV and radio broadcasts. He is in tune to new technology and has some exciting ideas to further market the AHSAA through media broadcasts. I am looking forward to working with him.”

Wood and wife Ashley have four children: Patrick, 17; Cater, 16; Amanda, 13 and Colton, 9
